Three New Get A Mac Commercials Hit The Street!

Apple sure does like to post new Get A Mac commercials in groupings of 3. This time around the powers to be are really dogging on Vista. Two of the three videos come right out and directly mock Vista! Each of the three videos have their pros and cons which I’ll discuss starting with my favorite, “Choose a Vista”.

[Choose a Vista]

I feel this is the funniest of the three. The multiple versions of Vista just seems wacky to me. Infact, I thought that Professional and Home versions of XP was stupid. At least PC could have just flipped a coin back then :) But instead he has to construct a big wheel of doom that even Bob Barker would be jealous of. It’s great that Mac plays along with PC and claps in anticipation knowing that no matter what happens PC is screwed. However, “Choose A Vista” misses a great opportunity to drive the point home. This isn’t the first time that this has happened. Had I been the writer for this commercial I would have chosen a different ending. The wheel would have landed on a stripped down version of Vista and PC would thrown a fit or it would land on the most expensive version and PC would make a commend about having to sell his kidney or something. I think that would have captured the feeling of most consumers a little better.

[Genius]

I may be wrong, but I think that this is the first time that Apple has mentioned the Geniuses (A what? lol) in one of their Get A Mac commercials. It’s nice to see that the ads are covering all the bases and thoroughly pointing out the advantages of Macs. I’m hard pressed to find any faults with this video other than I think the Genius should have made a joke about PC’s puny hard drive *snicker* On a side note, was it just me or did the Genius look a bit like Sarah Jessica Parker at first?

[Party is Over]

Once PC started pouting about all his problems since upgrading to Vista a song instantly popped into my head, “Its my party and I’ll cry if I want to…” Anyways, I thought that it was slightly unclear if the party guest really thought that the party was fun or if he was just being nice. It sure looked like a dud of a party to me! At the end either the guest was trying to blow PC off or Apple wanted to show how PC’s are all work and no play. I think the writers should have committed to one of the two posibilities and added a bit of salt to the wound :) Besides from that, I think PC’s sarcasim was great! “Whoopie for the whole entire world”.

Well there you have it. Three new Get A Mac commercials to hold you over for a few weeks. As always you can find higher quality versions of the Get A Mac ads on Apples website. If you haven’t already had enough of PC and Mac head on over to The Apple Blog. They’ve got a great article about Get A Mac ads that aren’t featured on TV or Apples website.

Mac Vs PC Commercial South Park Style

Maybe I’m the only one, but I never get sick of the “I’m a Mac and I’m a PC” commercial parodies. Could it be because Mac vs PC is like modern day Spy vs Spy? Anyways, this commercial has a a different sort of twist on the popular Get A Mac campaign. It gives John Hodgman and Justin Long the boot and introduces their South Park counterparts.

Now if you know a bit about the history between Apple and South Park you might think this video came from South Park Studios. But it didn’t! The video was infact created as the final project for a multimedia production class at California State University by a student known on YouTube as huber7. If you ask me, Matt and Trey need to give this guy a call, as I wouldn’t mind seeing his stuff in an official South Park episode.

Mossberg Prompts New GetAMac Commercial?

This commercial was released a few days ago and for some reason I forgot to post a link to it. I’m sure that most of you have run across it by now, but for those of you who haven’t here it is.

This video comes out only a little over a week after principal technology columnist for the Wallstreet Journal, Walt Mossberg, bashes PC manufactures (Sony in particular) for all the ‘free’ trial programs that come preinstalled on new PCs. I wonder if Apple already had this video in the pipeline or if they took a queue from Walt’s complaints?

All the PC’s that I’ve ever owned I’ve built myself and loaded retail versions of Windows on them. So I’ve never experienced the frustration of getting a new PC full of crapware. But I’ve seen my my family deal with it and it’s quite a sad sight.

Windows is enough of a pain in the butt by itself. But when you have software that interferes with the normal opperation of your computer preinstalled, things get hairy real quick. It’s just not right to ship a computer to a consumer with 20+ icons on the desktop and expect them to sort things out.

Luckly, we’re all running Macs and we don’t have to deal with this right? Well, we do get a trial version of Microsoft Office and iWork, but that’s hardly comparable :)

EDIT: After posting this I realized that there wasn’t just one new commercial posted on Apples Website, but three! I guess that’s what I get for just glancing at the page and focusing just on the video :( Anyways, Here’s the other two…

First Official AppleTV Commercial

Tonight Apple aired its first official AppleTV commercial. The video features an iMac, iPod Video, and an AppleTV. “It’s on your computer. It’s on your iPod. Now, it’s on your TV.” (referring to iTunes content) The commercial isn’t quite what I would expect, but like all of Apple’s media its simple, to the point, and even slightly hip. In case you are wondering, the movie featured in the commercial is School of Rock :)

Sorry for the crummy quality, but its the best I could find. Apple doesn’t have a high quality version released on their site yet. Don’t worry, it isn’t fake. I saw it on TV myself, which prompted me to search for it online. I’ll update this post with a better quality video as soon as I find one.

Edit: Found a higher quality video. You can view the lower quality one here if you’d like.

Novell Copies Apple With BrainShare 2007 Videos

Mac PC Linux - NovelThis past week at Novell’s BrainShare conference 3 new Apple parody promotional videos debuted. It seems that like Sony, Novell is trying to hop on the Apple roller coaster. I don’t blame them, Apples advertising campaign has been working wonders lately. It makes me wonder… who will be the next corporation to try to get a piece of Apples pie?

PC Mac Linux AdYou’ll notice that Novell took a queue from Sony and decided to go with a female actress in this trio of parody videos. While Sony opted for a hip chick, Novell choose to go a different route and use a corporate woman. Although I like Tron, a female Linux is just too sexy to pass up.

If you like these, I’d recommend checking out some more of the videos from BrainShare 2007.
