Creating Aliases Without the Word “Alias”

Aliases are a great way to stay organized and allow quick easy access to files you use on a regular basis.  But, if your like me the first thing you do when you create an alias is to remove the word ‘alias’ from the newly created aliases file name.  I did the same thing on windows with shortcuts.  Maybe I’m an obsessive compulsive person, but I that extra word added on there annoys me!

But, there is a way to save your self the time of editing the names of your aliases each time you make one.  To do so you’ll need to forgo using the Apple+L key combination to create an alias and instead use the mouse.  Hold down the Option+Apple key and drag the file in question to the location you’d like the alias to be created.  You’ll have a nice new alias without the word ‘alias’ appended to its name!

There is one instance that this method will not work.  If you create the new alias in the same folder as the original file the word alias is still added to the file name.
