I can relate to the "product placement" hate item. I catch my self all the time saying "look, there's a PowerBook" or "hey, an iMac, did you see it?" at the movies or with regard to print ads "did you notice that hot chick was using a photoshoped MacBook without the Apple logo?"

I hate that they don't make a $600 laptop. I really don't hate them for that, but I just bought my 4th grader a $600 laptop running Vista Home Premium and it ain't horrible. She really wanted a new MacBook to replace her old TiPowerbook, but it looks like she gets to dabble with Vista for now!

rixmac

Thats harsh, short changing your daughter for a few hundred bucks. Oh well, maybe she won't be scarred or traumatized for life. You know that just buying the MacBook would have way cheaper than the 'professional help' bills that will come rolling in because of vista. Hope you kept the TiPowerBook, she may be wanting it back soon.

Rixmac, if you and your daughter are used to using a platform (Mac OS) and your daughter needs a notebook replacement then the sensible thing to do is to buy another Mac. That's what Windows users do. If Apple's Macbook was $600 and a Windows user needs a new PC but they cost about $1000.00 the cheaper Mac wouldn't really matter, he would still buy another PC. That's been the gist of it. Vista works well when it's new, I know of a few people that are sorry they bought into it. Same Windows issues and fixes WILL happen. Sorry, but that was not even a smart decision, kinda stupid.

PC or Mac, I would have been ecstatic to have my own computer in 4th grade :) I suppose back in the 80's and early 90's multiple computers in a home was a bit rare. From what I remember our family always had a computer, but I didn't end up getting my own till I was in 8th grade. Even then, none of my friends had their own computers. Its amazing how early kids are getting their first computers. My parents were a little taken aback when I knew more about our family computer in the 6th grade. I can't imagine what it will be like someday when 1st graders are typing 200 words per minute and creating home videos!

About traumatizing my daughter by buying her a laptop with Vista on it - we have three Macs in the house that she has access to at any time. My point of getting her a pc was so that she would have familiarity and comfort with both platfoms and for me to understand and muck around with it. Beleive me - I'm a dyed-in-the-wool MacAddict, but for some reason, Vista was the first Windows OS that I was interested in tinkering with. Can't explain why. It's my job, while she is still in elementary school, to take care of system updates, viruses, etc, on whatever computer she uses. I don't have her click on "install iPhoto update" or other such things on the Mac, yet.

I relate to the one top right... not that I want to deny some poor windows user the experience of an iPod, but the apple store in town is pretty crowded these days.

I can't say I agree with the complaint about the stock being too high though, as long as it keeps going up, who cares. I bought 20 shares in Jan, last I looked it was up 16% this year, I have started calling it iProfit. :) now it they will just do a split, then I can call it and apple split...
