Tonight Apple aired its first official AppleTV commercial. The video features an iMac, iPod Video, and an AppleTV. “It’s on your computer. It’s on your iPod. Now, it’s on your TV.” (referring to iTunes content) The commercial isn’t quite what I would expect, but like all of Apple’s media its simple, to the point, and even slightly hip. In case you are wondering, the movie featured in the commercial is School of Rock :)

Sorry for the crummy quality, but its the best I could find. Apple doesn’t have a high quality version released on their site yet. Don’t worry, it isn’t fake. I saw it on TV myself, which prompted me to search for it online. I’ll update this post with a better quality video as soon as I find one.

Edit: Found a higher quality video. You can view the lower quality one here if you’d like.

It certainly isn’t the greatest commercial I’ve ever seen. How about showing us the slick interface next time?

I thought it was pretty good…instead of touting ‘cool and glossy’, it showed that it just worked, which is where Apple needs to be in the home consumer market.

i give it a 8 or so… it needs a bit more pizazz… but then again i have no plan of buying one so the ad would not work on me.

Yeah, this commercial isn’t one of my favorites.

But as Scott pointed out, the commercial shows exactly what Apple wants the consumers to know. The AppleTV just works, like all of Apple’s products. While this may not be displayed by showing the slick interface, it does however play off the ease of use of iTunes and the iPod. By first showing an iMac then an iPod, consumers who already own one of these products will know how easy they are to use. Apple is trying show that the AppleTV is no different from their other offerings and that you need to drink the cool-aid!

At least thats my take on the commercial :)

    very true.
there are other products that i am more excited about.
Mostly because i am a tech guy.
there is not much that i can do about them coming sooner though…

Many of the reviews I’m reading complain about the video quality of iTMS purchases over the AppleTV. The commercial makes it look like it could be HD. Seems like a logical leap. You have iTunes. You have an iPod. Why not watch your content in the living room.

As a Mac guy I hate to say it, but I’m about as excited about the AppleTV as I am about the MS Zune. Throw DVR/PVR capability on that baby and I’ll be all over it though…

Your right Mike. The quality of the movies coming from the iTMS are great to play on your computer or iPod. But when you play them on a 50 inch HD TV the lack of quality would definitely be noticeable. Apple is sort of between a rock and a hard place. If they offer higher quality video then downloads would take longer and customers who didn’t know any better might frown upon that. But if they don’t offer higher quality video, sales for the AppleTV will lack. It would be neat if Apple could strike some more deals like they did with EMI and provide high quality DRM free video :)
